N.E.W.Ts Magical Readathon Mid Month Check In

You may or may not be aware that August is the month of the N.E.W.Ts Magical Readathon. I really enjoyed taking part in the O.W.Ls back in April so of course I'm taking part in the N.E.W.Ts this month too.

Today's post is a mid month check in to let you know how I'm getting on so far with this readathon, what I've read so far and what I still need to read to achieve my Magizoologist career.

Care of Magical Creatures

Acceptable: Book title that starts with the letter A, for Aragog.
A Dress for the Wicked by Autumn Krause

40220881

My first read of the month. I really liked this one, it was super fun. I gave it 4 stars.

Exceeds Expectations: A book under 300 pages.

All the Things We Do in the Dark by Saundra Mitchell

37236008. sx318

This was a really powerful read. It was very raw and emotional. I gave this one 4 stars too.

Outstanding: Grab onto Fawkes tail - A book with a bird on the cover.

The Sacrifice Box by Martin Stewart

30048202

Unfortunately I was disappointed with this one. It went to crazy 80s horror story for my liking. I gave this one 2 stars.

Charms

Acceptable: Read a book you think has a gorgeous cover.
The Bone Garden by Heather Kassner

45913385. sy475

A macabre but magical story suitable for adults and children alike. Another 4 star read.

Exceeds Expectations: Read a comic/graphic novel/manga (or a book under 150 pages).

The Encyclopedia of Early Earth by Isabel Greenberg

17412749

I finally found a graphic novel I enjoyed! I liked that this was focused on the story telling and I liked the interesting twist on familiar myths and tales from religion. Again 4 stars.

Herbology

Acceptable: Mandrake - Listen to an audiobook (if not green on the cover).
The Edge by Tim Lebbon

Exceeds Expectations: Read a book between 350 and 390 pages.

The Good Luck Girls by Charlotte Nicole Davis

I'm really pleased with how my reading is going so far this month. As well as this books above I've also read another full novel and a graphic novel so, by half way through August I've already read 5 novels and 2 graphic novels. I hope I can keep up the pace for the second half of the month.

How many books have you read so far this month? I'd love to hear about your favourite.
